Child Benefits (Abono de Família)

All legal residents contributing to Social Security are entitled to child benefits, regardless of nationality. The amount depends on the family's income bracket (Escalão) and the age of the child.

Even high earners usually receive a nominal amount. You must apply at the Segurança Social Direta portal. It is also a prerequisite for other benefits, such as free school meals or transport passes for students.
