Parental Leave (Licença Parental)

Portugal offers generous parental leave. The standard "Initial Parental Leave" lasts 120 or 150 days, paid at 100% or 80% of the salary, respectively. It can be shared between parents.

There is a "Sharing Bonus": if each parent takes at least 30 days of leave exclusively (not at the same time), the total duration extends to 180 days paid at 100%. Fathers must legally take specific days immediately after birth.
