Recycling Cooking Oil (Oleão)
Pouring used cooking oil down the sink is a major taboo in Portugal as it clogs municipal pipes. Instead, you should pour cooled oil into a plastic bottle and deposit it in an orange bin called an Oleão.
These bins are often located near supermarkets or large recycling points. Some municipalities even offer free funnels to help you transfer the oil into bottles cleanly.
