Smoking & Vaping Restrictions

Portugal treats vaping and heated tobacco (like IQOS) exactly the same as traditional cigarettes. Smoking is strictly prohibited in all indoor public spaces, including bars and restaurants, unless they have specialized ventilation.

New laws also ban smoking outdoors near schools, hospitals, and public transport stops. Fines for breaking these rules can reach €750. Always look for the "Proibido Fumar" sign before lighting up.
