Understanding Water Bill Tiers

Water pricing in Portugal is progressive. The first few cubic meters (1st Tier) are cheap, but the price per liter skyrockets if you exceed certain limits (2nd and 3rd Tiers). This encourages conservation.

Large families (5+ people) can apply for the "Tarifa Familiar" at their municipality. This adjusts the tier limits so you aren't penalized for having more people in the household showering and washing clothes.
