Accessing Public Healthcare (SNS)

To use public hospitals, you need a Número de Utente. You get this by registering at your local "Centro de Saúde" with your residency permit and NIF.

Public healthcare is excellent but can have long wait times for non-emergencies. Many expats prefer having a private insurance (like Médis or Multicare) for faster specialist access.
