Prescribed Thermal Treatments

Portugal has a rich culture of Medical Spas (Termas). Treatments for respiratory or musculoskeletal issues can be prescribed by your family doctor and are partially subsidized (comparticipado) by the SNS.

A typical treatment lasts 12 to 14 days. You pay the spa directly, and the state reimburses a percentage (usually 35%) later. It is a popular and effective therapy for chronic conditions like asthma or arthritis.
